Our story
The lightbulb moment happened when our founder, Mica Ang, became a mother, hired a nanny for her then newborn daughter and realized that the uniforms available in the market were not what she thought her nanny deserved. With our humid climate, she couldn’t believe that the available uniforms were not made of breathable material. The designs were also boxy and not something that would get anyone excited to wear.
Not long after the launch of the uniform collection, Naynay also started to create breast-feeding friendly pieces. Mica, who was then breast-feeding her daughter , couldn’t find any nursing clothes she liked. They were either “not-cool” looking, not cool to the skin and stuff she wouldn’t wear after she would stop breast-feeding. And so N Lounge and N Casual were created. Pieces in these collections are cool enough , you wouldn’t think they’re for nursing. They’re also inclusive because mom or not you can totally rock them!
Naynay (not neyney) was coined by Mica’s nephew for his second mom (his nanny). It is a play on the word ‘Nanay’. It is fitting for the brand because Naynay creates in order to empower and celebrate EVERY woman and the amazing work they do.
Being a working mom who was out almost the entire day,
Mica knew that her daughter would spend most part of the day with her nanny.
She would be her daughter’s second “nanay’’. The thought of completely entrusting her then newborn daughter to someone she barely knew was scary.
But she believed that by empowering a person, making them feel loved and good about themselves, would allow them to work better and reciprocate in the same way you treat them.
